There is a joy like no other – helping a child learn how to ride a bike.
Watching them pedal on their own for the very first time—after hours of practice to get to that moment—is pure magic. They learn, they try, they wobble, they fall, they get frustrated… then they try again. They make progress. Their curiosity grows, followed closely by determination. With each glide and every balancing act, their confidence builds—and so does their sense of independence.
This is exactly what happens during our Kids Learn to Ride Series.
As a family-focused and mom-owned bike shop, the number one question we hear from parents is, “Will you teach my child how to ride a bike?”
So in 2024, The Ride Cafe hosted our first-ever two-day Kids Learn to Ride November Series, held on Election Day and Veterans Day. This was our trial run—and it exceeded every expectation.
We welcomed over 20 kids in each class and transformed a church parking lot into a bike rodeo learning lab. Pedals came off every bike, instantly turning them into balance bikes and creating a low-pressure, confidence-building environment.
The kids loved being outside—meeting new friends, learning new skills, reading bike-themed books, and playing games. By the end of the program, more than half of the kids were riding independently, and every single one of them walked away with more confidence on two wheels.

After our Election Day series, we moved to the church basement to continue lessons throughout the winter. In 2025, we hosted a Kids Learn to Ride Series for each school break. We emphasized movement and independence into their school break, teaching a skill not currently taught in most U.S. schools.

Since launching our Kids Learn to Ride Program, we’ve helped more than 160 kids grow their confidence on two wheels—with many learning to pedal all the way through with us. We look forward to continuing to grow this program in 2026.
Help us grow this program by becoming an Instructor! We’re currently looking for a lead instructor for July programing with a North Shore camp. Paid training is available. This is an excellent job for a teacher.
